Buffalo
Springs Herb Farm May Day: A Celebration of Spring
Saturday, May 5, 2007 Raphine, VA
Buffalo Springs Herb Farm will host its annual May Day celebration Saturday, May 5, 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. May is the month when our part of the world births itself. The blustering March wind and a rainy April give rise to a riot of color and scent as the earth explodes in floral fireworks. Join us as we celebrate the old custom of "bringing in the May." This event will usher in the spring season with Morris dancers, a May pole, garden seminars, a nature walk, and a delicious "gourmet weiner" lunch. The Albemarle Morris Men Dancers from Charlottesville, Virginia, will help usher in the spring season. Morris Dancing is a centuries old traditional folk dance which was found in small villages around Oxford, England. It was a central part of annual springtime rituals throughout the region. The dancers wear bells on each shin, wield sticks and/or handkerchiefs, and dance to lively folk tunes. The event is free with lunch available for a fee. For information, call the herb farm at 540-348-1083 (Wednesday thru Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.) or visit our website at www.buffaloherbs.com.
